Yoga for Children and Teens-private classes

Yoga for Children: 3-12 years old

In Yoga for Children classes we always start by sharing our feelings, we warm-up our bodies with fun activities, learn about anatomy, practise yoga poses and sequences, learn a variety of breathing exercises that can help us feel either calm or energised, we practise mindfulness and...at the end of each class we enjoy a cosy relaxation with guided meditations.

A yoga class for children is very different to a yoga class for adults!

Yoga games, props, music, dancing, mindful movement and art/craft activities are all incorporated into yoga classes for children, making classes age-appropriate, engaging and fun!

Classes are themed, making traditional yoga poses, breathing exercises and meditation accessible to children.

Examples of class themes include:

  • Nature i.e Trip to the jungle, Ocean adventure...
  • Being a good friend.
  • Kindness.
  • Seasonal themes i.e Lunar New Year, Seasons.

The benefits of yoga and mindfulness for children are vast. Yoga helps children develop strength, balance, flexibility and co-ordination but that's just the physical side!

On a mental and emotional level, yoga can provide children with the tools they need to manage their reactions to their emotions and develop self-worth, gratitude, compassion and resilience.

Yoga for Teens: 13-18 years old

The onset of puberty brings with it a whole host of developments, both physically and emotionally. Add to this the increased workload at school and it can be a very challenging time for this age group.

Classes intend to support the development of a positive mind-body connection and to provide teeangers with a safe space to share and connect with their peers.

Yoga for Teens classes provide students with various strategies for managing stress, anxiety and worry.

Yoga poses and sequences (a flow of yoga poses) are taught that support growing bodies, build strength, develop flexibility and balance.

Examples of class themes include:

  • Self-belief.
  • Positive affirmations.
  • Inner strength.
  • Cultivating calm.
  • Gratitude.
  • Friendship and connection.
