My name is Alison, welcome and thank you for visiting OmSkool Yoga!
I decided to swap teaching from a classroom, to teaching from a yoga mat. Check out the About section to read my personal story.
I believe sharing Yoga and Mindfulness with Children and Teenagers is so incredibly important in the world we are living in. Children need to learn how to feel good physically, mentally and emotionally and to have strategies available for when life gets hard. These classes are NOT the same as adult classes, nor should they be.
What does OmSkool mean?
Om - In a nutshell, this sound derives from the ancient language Sanskrit and is thought to represent the Universe. It is traditionally chanted in yoga classes.
Skool - A fun, purposefully incorrectly spelt reference to my 14 years working as a primary school teacher.
My passion is:
- helping children cultivate healthy self-esteem.
- teaching yoga poses as a healthy and non-competitive practise for children to tune into and move their bodies.
- supporting children to develop emotional literacy so they are able to identify their feelings and understand why they feel them.
- sharing breathing exercises and relaxation techniques, including meditation, to help children manage their reactions to their emotions.
- guiding mindfulness practises to help children develop focus and feel calm.
- ensuring OmSkool Yoga classes are taught in a style that is age-appropriate, inclusive, engaging and fun!
